How do artists write their lyrics?

Most of my lyrics come from stuff that's actually happened to me.

It can be a conversation I've had with someone, something I'm going through, something somebody's said to me or sometimes just a line that comes into my head and I think there's something in that.

I write a lot of it down by hand. I've always done that. I've got loads of notebooks and random pages with lyrics on them, some finished and some that never became anything.

I don't really sit down and think right, today I'm going to write a song about this. Usually something is already on my mind and that's where it comes from.

Sometimes I'll get a line first, sometimes it's a melody and sometimes loads of it comes at once. There's not really one way that I do it.

I change things loads as well. If you look at some of my original lyric pages there are words crossed out everywhere, lines moved around and bits that never made the finished song.

I actually really like looking back at those because you can see where the song came from before anyone else ever heard it.

That's part of why I've started putting more of that stuff on here.

I like the finished song obviously but I like all the stuff that came before it as well.
