What do I write songs about?

Where the ideas for my songs actually come from and why most of them start with something that's happened in my own life.

My life mainly.

Relationships, people, things that have happened, things I'm thinking about. Pretty much anything that sticks around in my head long enough.

I've tried sitting down before and thinking about what would make a good song and usually I don't think that's when I write my best stuff.

It's normally when something has actually happened and I need to write about it.

It doesn't have to be some massive life-changing thing either.

Sometimes someone can say something really small and for whatever reason it sticks with me. Then I'll write it down and it turns into something completely different.

I've also had songs where I thought I knew what I was writing about and then realised afterwards that it was actually about something else.

I like that though.

I don't want to know exactly what a song is going to be before I've written it.

For me it's normally just whatever is going on in my life at the time.

That's where most of them come from.
